Flexible Workforce Brings Agility and Expertise
The gig economy is here to stay. The question is whether organizations will treat it as a stop-gap solution- or as an opportunity to build a more inclusive, future-ready world of work.

What are the main factors driving the rapid expansion of the gig economy in recent years?

SD The rise of the gig economy feels much like how food delivery reshaped our everyday choices- moving from “cook or dine out” to getting meals delivered instantly with a tap. Work has gone through the same shift. Platforms like Uber, Zomato, and Upwork have made it accessible, flexible, and truly on-demand.

As a CHRO and woman in leadership, I see how this shift uniquely empowers professionals- especially women and younger generations- by offering autonomy, the ability to balance multiple priorities, and the freedom to design careers around life.

Globally, Deloitte research shows that only 42% of organizations today have workforces primarily made up of salaried employees. The rest rely on contractors, freelancers, and gig workers- and this reliance is expected to grow.
