It is a complicated triangle

It is very difficult for HR & the organisation to keep themselves away from treating this as a purely personal matter as it is bound to impact colleagues around the two involved in this kind of a relationship.

Do you think that with the rise of diversity and Inclusion at workplace, there is also rise in workplace romance in organisations? If that is so, how do you view this phenomenon?

LB When it comes to love in the workplace, it’s not all black and white but shades of grey. There is a myriad of factors to consider, including company culture and the nature of the relationship. Making their way through this romantic minefield can especially be a challenging task for HR leaders trying to balance organisation requirements while managing employee interests. The right policies, clear communication, and respect for employees and organisation can help us reach a state of equilibrium where we give our employees privacy and also have certain protocols in place to counter undesired outcomes.

Workplace romance is not an issue that impacts just a handful of employees. According to the survey, produced by job site Vault.com, 58% of employees have engaged in a romantic relationship with a colleague. A surprising 72% of those over 50 years old...
