Mental health and wellbeing encompass emotional, psychological, and social health, influencing how individuals think, feel, act, cope with stress, and relate to others. Evidence suggests there are a number of steps one can take to improve mental health and well-being. Trying them could help a person feel more positive and get the most out of life. Good relationships are important for mental wellbeing, because they can help to build a sense of belonging and self-worth, give an opportunity to share positive experiences, and provide emotional support and allow for supporting others.

There are many things one could try to help build stronger and closer relationships: if possible, take time each day to be with your family, for example, try arranging a fixed time to have dinner together; arrange a day out with friends whom you have not met for a while; try switching off the television to talk or play a game with the children, friends or family; have lunch with a colleague; visit a friend or family member who needs support or company; volunteer at a local school or hospital, and...
