Obligations and Compliances of Employers
The Apprentices Act, 1961 imposes certain legal obligations and compliance requirements on employers to ensure that apprenticeship training is standardized, meaningful, and beneficial to both apprentices and industry. Employers engaging apprentices must comply with specific duties regarding recruitment, training, stipends, record-keeping, and reporting.

A. Key Obligations

Registration on Apprenticeship Portal

Employers must register their establishment on the official portal-www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in

Registration is required for both Central and State-designated trades.

Engagement of Apprentices

Employers must engage apprentices in accordance with the prescribed ratio of apprentices to workers, as notified by the government. The minimum and maximum number of apprentices is specified by the Apprenticeship Adviser. Categories include: Trade Apprentices, Graduate Apprentices, Technician Apprentices, and Optional Trade Apprentices. Apprentices can be engaged from 2.5% to 15% of total employee strength including contractual. (Rule 7 (B) (3))

Execution of Apprenticeship Contracts

A Contract of Apprenticeship must be signed between the employer and apprentice and must be sent for registration within 30 days and registered online through the apprenticeship portal...
