How do you align your people strategy with the overall business goals of your organization?
VB: For me, people strategy is not separate from business strategy-it is an enabler. People Processes are not HR processes; they are business processes. I always start with understanding business trends, market trends in the industry, and challenges the company is facing. The next step is understanding the business drivers in my industry. Then I begin by clearly understanding the business goals-whether it’s organic or inorganic growth, innovation, cost optimisation, digital transformation, cultural change, etc. Once I know what the business wants to achieve, I translate that into what it means for people-what kind of capabilities, culture, leadership, organisation structure, and mindset are required.
