The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Thursday, 4th Sep.2025 passed the Factories (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2025 by voice vote without any discussion.
The amendment to the Factories Act in the state of Rajasthan, through this bill, increases the maximum weekly working hours in factories, which is expected to lead to higher production and productivity, while also creating new opportunities for investment and employment in Rajasthan.
The provision related to continuous working hours has also been made more flexible, allowing workers to dedicate the saved time to their families. Workers will now be able to work up to six hours continuously without a break and remain present in factories for up to 10 hours a day inclusive of interval rest. Additionally, the overtime limit has been increased from 50 hours in a quarter to 100 hours per quarter, which can be extended to 144 hours, which will bring multiple benefits to workers, including those migrating from other states. However, working hours limit in a week will remain same .i.e. 48 hours. For overtime worker, consent will be required except for safety activities.
Women workers will now be able to work at night with their written consent, thereby expanding opportunities for their participation in the workforce and paving the way for greater women’s empowerment. Women working in night will be subject to safety guidelines as may be prescribed.
