Nashik: A major workplace sexual harassment case has emerged from a private IT company in Nashik, where eight women employees have lodged multiple FIRs alleging sexual harassment, exploitation, and misconduct by colleagues, triggering arrests and a high-level police probe.
According to police and media reports, the complaints led to the registration of at least nine cases, including charges of sexual harassment and hurting religious sentiments. Six employees, including a team leader, have been arrested so far, while others remain under investigation.
Police said the alleged incidents occurred over a period of nearly four years inside the workplace. The women accused certain colleagues of inappropriate touching, obscene remarks, and sustained harassment. In one case, an accused allegedly established a physical relationship with a colleague under the false promise of marriage.
Some complainants also alleged psychological pressure and coercive behavior, including offensive remarks about personal lives and religious beliefs. In certain cases, there were claims of attempts to influence religious practices, which led to additional charges being invoked.
The company’s Human Resources (HR) department has also come under scrutiny. Police have recorded the statement of an HR manager after allegations that complaints were raised internally, but no action was taken.
In one instance cited in reports, the HR function allegedly downplayed the misconduct, with remarks suggesting such behaviour was “common in MNCs,” drawing sharp criticism.

Authorities have since issued notices to HR personnel to explain their role and possible lapses in handling complaints.
Given the seriousness of the allegations and the number of complainants, police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.The team is examining patterns of abuse and whether more victims were affected within the organization.
Officials indicated that additional employees have begun coming forward, suggesting the case may widen further.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the matter as “very serious” and said strict action would be taken against those found guilty. He also praised the police for acting swiftly in uncovering the case.
The incident has sparked broader concerns about workplace safety, corporate accountability, and the effectiveness of internal complaints committees in handling sexual harassment cases. Questions are being raised about whether proper mechanisms existed and why early complaints allegedly went unaddressed.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further arrests or charges may follow based on evidence collected.
