CMA Celebrates Women's Day

The Calcutta Management Association (CMA) hosted a special International Women’s Day edition of CMA Caring Minds – Conversation 360 on 10 March 2026 at The Saturday Club, Kolkata, under the theme “When She Thrives, We Rise.” The event brought together almost 80 members of the management community, professionals, academicians and students for an engaging and inspiring dialogue on women’s leadership and empowerment.

The session was formally inaugurated by Indranil Banerjee, President CMA, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of creating platforms that encourage leadership, inclusivity and professional growth. The highlight of the evening was an insightful conversation with Madhumita Basu, Former Chief Strategy, Marketing & Innovation Officer at Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd. and Former President of CMA. The session was moderated by Sohini Gooptu, Treasurer CMA, who began the interaction by introducing the speaker and engaging her in a lively discussion through spontaneous and thoughtful questions.

During the conversation, Basu shared insights from her remarkable professional journey, including her experience as one of the very few women leading sales in traditionally male-dominated sectors such as the cement and battery industries. Reflecting on her career path, she spoke about the determination and resilience required to establish oneself in such industries and encouraged women professionals to pursue leadership roles with confidence.

She also acknowledged the role played by the Calcutta Management Association in her professional journey, noting how the platform has supported learning, networking and leadership development over the years. Speaking candidly about balancing professional responsibilities and personal life, Basu emphasised the importance of prioritising health and maintaining personal well-being while navigating demanding careers. Addressing the diverse audience of both men and women, she expressed her happiness at celebrating Women’s Day in such an inclusive environment.

Throughout the session, Ms. Basu repeatedly highlighted the guiding principle “Give to Gain,” underscoring the importance of contributing positively to others, organisations, and society as a pathway to personal and professional growth.

The session concluded with a fun and interactive rapid fire round by the moderator Sohini Gooptu, followed by a formal vote of thanks delivered by Vibhor Tandon, Vice President, CMA who expressed gratitude to the speaker, moderator and participants for making the event a meaningful celebration of women’s achievements and leadership. The event served as a powerful reminder of CMA’s continued commitment to fostering dialogue, leadership and inclusive growth within the management community.
