Across Indian workplaces, conversations around women’s participation have moved well beyond hiring targets and representation metrics. Yet one persistent challenge remains under examined: sustaining career momentum through early parenthood. Hiring women into the workforce is only the first step. Ensuring continuity across life stages is what ultimately strengthens leadership pipelines.
This conversation is not only organisational but national in scope. NITI Aayog and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in their 2025 report, From Intent to Impact: A Compendium of Good Practices on Gender Parity at Workplace, emphasised that improving gender parity is central to India’s ambition of becoming a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047. Sustained female workforce participation across career stages is essential to that goal. For business leaders, childcare therefore sits at the intersection of talent strategy and long-term economic growth.
