Drawing on more than three decades of experience across business, human resources and organisational excellence, Simin Askari, shares her perspectives on what it takes to lead in today's evolving workplace. When I reflect on leadership today, I see it less as a position of authority and more as a daily practice of alignment between business outcomes and human realities. Having spent years as CHRO at Apollo International Ltd and then at the DS Group, I have witnessed first-hand how employee expectations have evolved, especially in times of disruption, uncertainty and rapid change. The modern workforce is no longer looking for leaders who simply “manage” them; they are looking for leaders who understand them.

How are employee expectations from leaders evolving, particularly around trust, transparency, flexibility and well-being?

SA Early in my career, employees primarily expected clarity of roles, stability and fair rewards. Today, those are hygiene factors. What they now seek is trust-based leadership.
