In 1964, S&P 500 companies would stay on the list for an average of 33 years. In 2016, it was reduced to 24 years. There is a forecast that it will shrink to just 12 years by 2027! That means longevity and endurance were never automatic or guaranteed. It was the result of deliberate interventions, planned efforts towards renewal and relevance – that secures endurance.
